Making maps
Another interesting way to get residents and students to learn from each other is to make maps. Maps give people the opportunity to depict an enivronment in the way that they experience it. Try for example to make a map of your own town marking all the places that construction is taking place at the moment, or mark places where there is litter on the road, or where young people gather. This exercise will give you a fresh and interesting perspective of your lived environment.
To get students and residents engaged you can ask each group to make their own map marking the elements that they find interesting, or that the residents have brought forward as interesting. You would need to provide them with a base map of the area, but these can also be found and edited online.
