How to do community meetings; a lecturers perspective
Afbeelding1

Tips

  • Make sure the students make creative assignments. This improves transferability to residents.
  • Make sure students can also discuss about their assignment, so they can answer questions from residents.
  • Each student should be able to present so plan a time for them to do this.

Output

The assignments students make for their LOCUS course have a central place in the community meetings. This is their moment to share with the residents what they've learned in their interactions with them and with people out on the streets of the neighbourhood.

To make students really shine in this moment of giving back it is important to implore them to be creative with their assignments. Ofcourse it depends on what type of course LOCUS is embedded in in your local context, but most courses lend themselves for creative, interactive final assignments

Examples

Students in our LOCUS project have made all kind of different assignments to present to the public during community meetings. Students in Antwerp made videos, students in Spain made art, students in Amsterdam made posters, and so on.

Adapt the final assignment to your local context to get most out of the community meetings. Below you can view examples for inspiration

Antwerp Student Assignment

In this video you can see what students in Antwerp made from their research results. These videos could be shown at the community meetings.

Madrid Student Assignment
